GGUSD Schools Recognized for Fostering Positive School Climate

The California Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Coalition has recognized four GGUSD schools, including Heritage Computer Science Academy, Stanley Elementary School, Warren Elementary School, and McGarvin Intermediate School, for success in fostering positive school climate and culture.

Grade Change Request for 2020-2021 Courses

New, urgent legislation was passed to support all high school students who were adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the 20-21 school year. This legislation gave all high school students and their parents/guardians a right to request a grade change for 2020-2021 school year courses.

Seventeen GGUSD Schools Celebrate 2021 No Place for Hate Designation

Seventeen schools in the Garden Grove Unified School District earned the distinction as “No Place for Hate Schools,” from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) for school-wide efforts during the 2020-2021 school  year to promote a positive school culture and climate built on values like inclusivity, kindness, and respect.

GGUSD to Offer Free Summer Meal Program

The Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) is offering a free Summer Meal program to help ensure that children have access to nutritional meals when school is not in session. The program will provide free summer meals, available at nine locations, to all GGUSD students.

The Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education celebrated the district’s eleven Class of 2021 high school valedictorians during its Board of Education meeting on June 1 with a video spotlight of each of the accomplished scholars. Four of the 11 valedictorians will attend ivy league universities including, Harvard, Stanford, and Yale.

La Quinta Nets CIF Championship in esports

La Quinta High School’s varsity esports club team, la pomme de terre, defeated the defending California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) champion Sunny Hills Lancers Gold team to win the California CIF League of Legends esports tournament earlier this month.

GGUSD Students Receive College Scholarships from Angels Baseball Foundation

Two Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) students, Alamitos Intermediate School student Nghi Hoang and Walton Intermediate School student Gia Le, were selected as Angels Scholars and awarded $10,000 in college scholarships from the Angels Baseball Foundation. Students were recognized as Angels Scholars for their determination, grit and leadership.

Bell Intermediate School Gets Visit and Donation from the Helpful Honda Guys

The Helpful Honda Guys made a visit to Bell Intermediate School on Tuesday, May 3, to surprise special education teacher Thuy Tran with $5,000 in classroom supplies, a new washer, dryer, oven range, and a refrigerator, to be used for instruction in her life skills class.

GGUSD to Host 43rd Annual First Impressions Art Exhibit

Garden Grove Unified School District will host its 43rd annual First Impressions Student Art Exhibit in a virtual format. This year’s exhibit will feature 374 works of art from students in preschool through high school. The virtual exhibit will go live Monday, May 10 at 9 a.m. when it can be viewed at www.ggusd.us/departments/vapa.

GGUSD to Begin 5 Full Days of In-Person Instruction in the Fall

We are happy to announce that all GGUSD schools will return to 5 full days of in-person instruction in the 2021-2022 school year.  A “normal” 5-day schedule is possible due to updated K-12 Schools Guidance announced by the California Department of Public Health on March 20th, which altered the 4-6 feet of distance from the previous guidance of February 22.

Garden Grove Unified School District employee Rosie Tamayo, who serves as the Food Services Lead at Violette Elementary School, was named an Orange County Finalist for the Orange County Department of Education’s 2021 Classified Employee of the Year program.

Three Schools Named 2021 California Distinguished Schools

Three Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) schools were recognized as 2021 California Distinguished Schools in an announcement by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond on March 18. Bell, Irvine, and McGarvin intermediate schools were among only 11 schools in Orange County and just over 100 across the state to be receive the prestigious recognition. Schools are awarded for achieving exceptional student performance or closing the achievement gap.

GGUSD Begins Preschool Registration for 2021-2022 School Year

Garden Grove Unified School District has begun the preschool registration process for the 2021-2022 school year for both its free state preschool program and its fee-based program. Both programs focus on early literacy coupled with interactive play in a caring environment that prepares students for kindergarten.

New AP Music Theory textbooks recommended for adoption and purchase by the Garden Grove Unified School District will be on public display from Monday March 1st through Friday April 16th (preview will not be available during the week of Spring Break from March 29th-April 2nd).

Pre-enrollment for Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten Begins February 17

Pre-enrollment for Fall 2021/22 full-day transitional kindergarten and full-day kindergarten classes in the Garden Grove Unified School District begins Wednesday, February 17. Parents should pre-enroll online as early as possible at https://enroll.ggusd.us and contact their child’s home school for further assistance. Further information about the enrollment process is available at https://ggusd.us/parents/pre-enrollment-guide. All GGUSD elementary school offices will be closed throughout the summer and will resume enrollment when the offices reopen in the fall.
