Last week, Garden Grove Unified School District celebrated nearly 80 high school juniors who successfully completed a six-week summer internship through the Orange County United Way Youth Career Connections program. GGUSD students, along with participating students from neighboring districts, were recognized at an Internship Culmination Celebration held at Orange Coast College on July 14.
During the celebration which included a networking breakfast, students provided internship testimonials and received certificates and scholarships for completing the internship. GGUSD Board of Education Vice President Teri Rocco, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education Dr. Stephanie Heflin, Assistant Superintendent of K-12 Educational Services Dr. Lorena Sanchez, CTE Director Myra Clarke, and other GGUSD leaders attended the event to celebrate GGUSD students.
“This program empowers our students to explore their career interests and gives them an invaluable opportunity to learn from professional mentors,” said Vice President Rocco. “We are grateful to Orange County United Way and our community corporate and non-profit partners for providing our students with this experience which will surely give them a competitive advantage after high school.”
