Twenty students from Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) were honored by the local Garden Grove Masons during a special Public Schools Night awards ceremony on Wednesday, April 25 at 6:00 p.m. Students were recognized for demonstrating determination and remaining dauntless in the face of adversity. The event was held at the Garden Grove Masonic Lodge No. 351, 11270 Acacia Parkway in Garden Grove.

Santiago High School’s Automotive Program Receives a New Set of Wheels

Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) students in Santiago High School’s Automotive Technology Career Pathway program now have a state-of-the-art vehicle to work on thanks to the Orange County Auto Dealers Association (OCADA) and KIA Motors, who recently donated a brand new Kia Stinger to the program as a result of Santiago students’ first place finish in a county-wide competition earlier this year.

GGUSD Students Receive Scholarships for Winning Science Projects in 2018 Science Fest

Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) students received college scholarship funds awarded by Endologix, a medical equipment manufacturer, which hosted a Science Fest Showcase and scholarship presentation on Thursday, April 12, at the company’s headquarters in Irvine. This was the second annual Science Fest Showcase, made possible through a unique partnership with GGUSD, Endologix, the Orange County United Way, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove.

Garden Grove Unified School District Named a 2018 California Exemplary District

Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) was named a 2018 California Exemplary District, a prestigious recognition awarded to only 22 school districts across the state by the California Department of Education. The new award celebrates districts that have implemented model practices, which resulted in positive student outcomes. Additionally, eleven elementary schools in GGUSD were named 2018 California Distinguished Schools, a top honor for the state’s most inspiring public schools that demonstrate significant academic gains in narrowing the achievement gap.

GGUSD Set to Launch New Spanish Dual Language Academy

Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) is set to launch the Russell Elementary Language Academy beginning in 2018-2019. Three schools in Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) were recognized for earning the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Schoolwide Site of Distinction award for 2017-2018. Alamitos Intermediate School, Doig Intermediate School, and Santiago High School were among only five schools in Orange County to earn the national recognition for demonstrating the highest level of implementation of AVID’s college and career readiness program.

GGUSD Invites Applicants for Bond Oversight Committee

The Garden Grove Unified School District is seeking qualified volunteers to serve on the independent Bond Oversight Committee (BOC), tasked with overseeing lawful and appropriate expenditures of the district’s bond funds. The Committee meets several times each year to provide public scrutiny and accountability for use of funds from Measure A, the $250 million bond measure approved in 2010 and Measure P, the $311 million bond measure approved in November 2016. The Committee has an opening for an individual who has a business background as well as a senior citizen representative.
