La Quinta Hosts Ribbon Cutting to Celebrate New Performing Arts Center

On February 20, La Quinta High School welcomed community leaders, parents, and students for an exciting ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the school’s brand new state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center.

The ribbon cutting ceremony included performances from the school’s lion dancers, choir, and band, as well as remarks from Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education Trustee Bob Harden and Assistant Principal Adrian Lucero.  Board of Education Vice President Teri Rocco and Trustee Lan Nguyen also attended the ceremony, as well as Westminster Mayor Tri Ta and representatives from the offices of state and federal legislators.

“We know that this state-of-the-art facility will usher in a new era of success for La Quinta’s performing arts programs,” said Harden.  “In this spectacular auditorium, students will learn discipline, creativity, and team work, and they will experience the magic of the arts, creating memories that last a lifetime.”

After the ceremonial red ribbon was cut, students provided tours of the Performing Arts Center prior to the start of the school’s Open House event.  The new 456-seat auditorium features a modern foyer, ticket booth, two dressing rooms, brand new lighting and audio systems, laser projectors, wheelchair lift, and more.

The new Performing Arts Center is part of the school’s recent transformation, which includes new science and classroom buildings, a new cafeteria, and new library/media center, as well as the construction of a new gym and aquatic center, which is currently underway.

The renovations were part of the district’s seismic safety improvement projects, funded in part by Measure P, the district’s successful bond measure approved in November 2016.
