Pacifica High School’s First Graduating Class Returns for 50 Year Reunion

Pacifica alumni reunited for 50th Reunion along with current students.

Pacifica High School’s first graduating class, the Class of 1967, reunited October 6 through October 8 to celebrate their 50th high school reunion. The reunion was hosted for the Classes of 1967, 1968, and 1969, who all walked through the front gate on the very first day Pacifica High School opened.  The alumni enjoyed a tour led by current Pacifica High School students, a reunion party, and a farewell picnic.

“As a member of the Class of 1969 and a Board of Education member, I really enjoyed visiting with my former classmates and sharing about what a positive impact the Garden Grove Unified School District had on our lives,” said Teri Rocco, Board of Education member.  “The Pacifica students who welcomed us back with open arms demonstrated the true family culture this district embodies.”

To start the weekend, the group of returning alumni were greeted by Principal Robin Patterson, ASB Directors Mary Murphy and Adrian Fernandez, along with the ASB, Latinos Unidos club members, cheerleaders, and Navy JROTC. They were given a student-led tour of the campus, which is currently under construction and looks much different than it did when doors opened on that very first day.

Other festivities included a reunion party at the Elks Lodge that included a warm welcome by the Pacifica cheerleaders as guests entered the venue. Former Pacifica teachers, who taught when the alumni were there, were recognized, including Richard Avis, Lou Drexel, Joe Gilchrist, Courtney Lantz, Bill Sinnegan and, Harold Yoak. The program ended with a humorous but touching monologue focusing on life in the late sixties. The weekend ended with an alumni picnic at Eastgate Park in Garden Grove.
