Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) is being recognized with the Best Communities for Music Education Award for the seventh year in a row. This award recognizes districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students. GGUSD is one of only nine districts in Orange County and one of 30 school districts across the state to receive this distinction.

To qualify for the Best Communities designation, GGUSD met rigorous eligibility requirements regarding funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. District information was reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.

“This ongoing recognition emphasizes the consistency and quality of our music and arts education program,” said Board of Education President Lan Nguyen. “Our exceptional music and arts programs enrich students’ educational experience in countless ways.”

The award program recognizes and celebrates outstanding efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students, and community leaders who have made music education part of a well-rounded education. Designations are made to districts and schools that demonstrate an exceptionally high commitment to and access to music education.

The GGUSD Visual and Performing Arts program is led by Coordinator Stacy Harris and is supported by 40 General/Choral Music teachers, 36 Visual Arts teachers, and 9 dance teachers supporting kindergarten through twelfth grade as well as 29 instrumental teachers for fourth through twelfth grade, and 8 Theater teachers supporting seventh through twelfth grade.
