Inter-District Transfers

INTERDISTRICT TRANSFERS (Incoming)

Incoming Interdistrict Transfers are an opportunity for students who reside outside of the Garden Grove Unified School District’s boundaries to apply for enrollment at a school within the GGUSD district boundaries. Applications for interdistrict transfers may be accepted for the following reasons: Childcare, Siblings, Complete School Year, Special Program, and Parent/Guardian Employment.

Applications for interdistrict transfers are granted based on space availability at the requested school.

Please Note:

  • Students attending a GGUSD school on an interdistrict transfer are not eligible for District transportation.
  • All Interdistrict transfers must be resubmitted in transition years - 6th grade to 7th grade and 8th grade to 9th grade or if you move.
  • GGUSD may request supporting documentation be submitted to the Office of Student Services before GGUSD can approve your transfer. (See attached list of possible supporting documentation.)
  • For students continuing at a GGUSD school who are reapplying for an interdistrict transfer, once GGUSD approves the transfer, a release from your district of residence is needed; students are eligible to register at their site and start school while the release is pending.
  • For new students applying for an interdistrict transfer in GGUSD, if a student’s application is placed on a waitlist the student MUST plan to attend their school of residence unless you have been informed your transfer has been approved.
  • Students will need to plan on attending their school of residence unless they have been notified via email that their child has been removed from the pending list.
  • For an interdistrict transfer request received by the district 15 or fewer calendar days before the commencement of instruction in the school year for which the transfer is sought, the district will notify the parent/guardian of its final decision within 30 calendar days from the date the request was received. (Education Code 4600.1)
  • For an interdistrict transfer request received by the district more than 15 days before the commencement of instruction in the school year for which the interdistrict transfer is sought, the district will notify the parent/guardian of its final decision as soon as possible, but no later than 14 calendar days after the commencement of instruction in the school year for which transfer is sought. (Education Code 4600.1)

INTERDISTRICT TRANSFERS (Outgoing)

Outgoing Interdistrict Transfers are for students who reside within Garden Grove Unified School District boundaries but request to attend a school outside of Garden Grove Unified School District for the following reasons: Childcare, Siblings, Complete School Year, Special Program, and Parent/Guardian Employment.

FOR STUDENTS THAT RESIDE IN GGUSD BOUNDARIES AND ARE REQUESTING TO ATTEND SCHOOLS IN ANOTHER DISTRICT, PLEASE COMPLETE THE FOLLOWING APPLICATION FOR POTENTIAL RELEASE.

Interdistrict Transfer Releases
We process transfers as quickly as possible; however, due to the high volume of submissions, there may be some delays. Once the original hard copy and supporting documentation are received, the processing turnaround time is approximately two weeks for the current school year, though this timing is subject to change. For the upcoming school year, applications will be processed in the order they are received, as quickly as possible, but no later than 14 calendar days after the new term begins.
