The Department of K-6 Instruction services is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating implementation of all aspects of the instructional program for elementary schools. Specifically, this includes the planning and implementing of the professional development program, support for schools completing the Single School Plan, BTSA, teacher support and coaching, and instructional aide training. In addition, the Department of K-6 Instruction offers guidance and support for individual school site instructional projects.

This handbook, created by the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association (CCSESA) in consultation with the California State Parent Teacher Association (PTA), gives parents an introduction to California's State Standards and a summary of what students are expected to learn as they advance from kindergarten through grade eight. These English Language Arts and Mathematics "Parent Roadmaps" outline major expectations for each grade level, while providing specific examples of how parents may help their children at home.
