Northcutt Student Named Spelling Bee Champion for 2nd Year
- Tuesday, February 27, 2024
Northcutt Elementary sixth-grader Joaquin Ablis earned the title of Spelling Bee Champion in the district’s 36th annual GGUSD Spelling Bee for elementary students held on February 22 at Edgar District Meeting Center.
This is the second year in a row Ablis captured the championship. This year’s deciding word, pasteurization, made him the top speller among the 43 elementary schools in GGUSD. Camila Martinez from Monroe Elementary Language Academy took second place.
“We are proud of our district’s top spellers and all that our schools do to help prepare students for this rigorous competition,” said Board of Education Vice President Lan Nguyen.
The trophy was awarded by GGUSD Director of TK-6 Instruction Melanie Mathovich and Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education Lisa Swartz.
Each of the district’s 43 elementary schools entered their top speller after they held their school spelling bee in January.
