GGUSD Schools Recognized for Fostering Positive School Climate

Heritage team celebrating PBIS success

The California Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Coalition has recognized four GGUSD schools, including Heritage Computer Science Academy, Stanley Elementary School, Warren Elementary School, and McGarvin Intermediate School, for success in fostering positive school climate and culture.

Heritage became the first school in GGUSD to receive the illustrious Platinum Award, which was given to only 148 schools across the state. Stanley and McGarvin were recognized with the Gold Award, while Warren earned the Bronze Award.

“GGUSD’s commitment to the social-emotional and mental wellness of our students is exemplified through recognitions such as the ones our schools received,” said GGUSD Board of Education Trustee Teri Rocco. “Our staff are not only dedicated to promoting and maintaining positive school cultures and climate, but they are also thriving at it.”

PBIS helps schools to encourage more positive student behavior, increase student performance and improve school climate. The awards from the California PBIS Coalition recognizes schools that are among the best in applying PBIS strategies to promote positive school climate and positive student behavior.

Across GGUSD, 49 schools are at various levels of PBIS implementation, with all schools on pace to adopt PBIS by the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
