GGUSD Honors OC Human Relations as Community Hero

At its meeting on December 13, the Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education recognized OC Human Relations with the district’s Community Heroes award. GGUSD has enjoyed a longstanding partnership with OC Human Relations and the non-profit organization has been crucial in supporting GGUSD’s mission of providing safe and welcoming school campuses.

As part of its work with GGUSD, OC Human Relations launched a Bridges Safe and Respectful Schools Program at all seven of GGUSD’s comprehensive high schools and a Restorative Schools program at select schools. These nationally-recognized programs have empowered students to improve the climate and culture on campus and to build a more equitable learning environment for all students.

“We are grateful for the expertise of OC Human Relations in engaging our school communities in fostering a culture of kindness and empathy and inspiring students to be upstanders to hate and bias,” said Board of Education President Walter Muneton.

Our district has relied upon the guidance of OC Human Relations to develop GGUSD’s Human Relations Task Force which brought stakeholders together from 2019-2021 to develop a plan to tackle human relations challenges and put the district on a path toward continual growth.
