GGUSD Celebrates New Classroom Building with Ribbon-Cutting

Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) hosted a ribbon-cutting celebration today to commemorate the grand opening of a new state-of-the-art two-story classroom building which houses 24 classrooms. This $16 million investment replaces outdated portables and will ensure students have a high-quality learning environment when school begins next week on Monday, August 12.

Board of Education Trustee Walter Muneton, an alumnus of the school whose trustee area includes Santiago High School, expressed his excitement for the project at the ceremony which was attended by district leaders including Superintendent Gabriela Mafi, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education Stephanie Heflin, Assistant Superintendent of K-12 Educational Services Lorena Sanchez, Assistant Superintendent of Special Education and Student Services Steve Yoon, as well as school administrators, local leaders, students, and staff.

“As a Board, we truly care about our school facilities,” said Muneton. “This investment is a reflection of our priorities and our first priority is the students. We want students to have the very best buildings and classrooms to learn and to feel comfortable, safe and happy at school.”

Last year, Santiago High School celebrated a brand new 9-lane synthetic turf track and field and a Wellness Space named the Cavalounge which supports the mental health and wellness of students.

Beginning next week, Santiago’s new classroom building will be bustling with learning in many content areas including English, History, Math, AVID and Special Education. These courses are critical components to the education offered at Santiago High School.
