Garden Grove Unified School District Accepts Applications for AVID College Readiness Program

Santiago High School celebrates being named an AVID National Demonstration School in 2017.

Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) is accepting applications from sixth grade students who are interested in applying for the district’s award-winning AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) elective course.  AVID is a six-year program and academic elective offered at all ten of GGUSD’s intermediate schools and seven high schools that equips students with college and career readiness skills.

The deadline to submit an application is January 31st and interviews will take place in February and March. Since AVID is an elective, a limited number of students are accepted.  Students who are selected for AVID will take advanced coursework, and learn organization, note-taking, and study skills that will prepare students for high school and put them on a path toward college readiness.  AVID students receive scholarship opportunities, attend college visit field trips, and are offered support from college mentors and tutors.

Parents and students interested in learning more about AVID are encouraged to watch the district’s new promotional video here.
