Weekly Reopening Update – October 9, 2020

Dear Parents,

Earlier this week, the district announced that after listening to input from students, parents and staff, GGUSD has determined that the best way to return to hybrid in-person learning is in phases. In order to meet the unique needs of the 67 schools across our district, GGUSD will use a tiered system to reopen campuses for in-person instruction, beginning first in areas meeting specific criteria including: COVID-19 rates consistently well below 8%; high parent/student interest in reopening; school facility ready for return; hybrid or distance learning schedules established; and all staffing leaves covered. We understand this is a very unique and challenging time.  This staggered approach will allow communities ready to reopen schools to do so when other areas might not yet be ready. Phase One of GGUSD School Reopening will begin Wednesday, October 28th. The schools reopening in Tier One that meet all the criteria are: Barker, Bryant, Eisenhower, Enders, Garden Park, Marshall, Monroe, Patton, and Sunnyside elementary schools, Mark Twain Special Education Center, Bell and Walton intermediate schools, Hare High School, and Jordan Adult Transition Program.

This morning, GGUSD hosted a Health and Safety Webinar for parents. The goal of the webinar is to ensure all parents know what health and safety protocols are in place for school reopening. The webinar covered important topics including masks, temperature taking, hand washing, school bus safety, response to illness procedures, and more.  If you missed it, please sign up to attend our Health and Safety Webinar on Thursday, October 15 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Students are welcome and interpretation will be offered in Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean and Arabic. One of our most important new health and safety protocols is the implementation of a daily Health Screening Form on ParentSquare. All parents will be expected to submit the ParentSquare form each morning to confirm that their child does not have a temperature of 100.4 or higher or any COVID-19 symptoms before sending their child to school. In order to use the daily Health Screening Form on ParentSquare, parents must first “activate” their ParentSquare account. Click here for a video on how to “activate” your ParentSquare account. Additional details will be coming about how to use the Health Screening Form but the most important thing you can do now is to make sure your ParentSquare account is activated.
