Communication from GGUSD
Coronavirus Update - 4/02/2020
Dear Families,
On Tuesday, the GGUSD Board of Education approved extending the cancellation of in-person classes through May 8, with the understanding we would be prepared for further extensions as needed.
Yesterday, Governor Newsom and State Superintendent Thurmond announced an expectation that distance learning continue through the end of the 2019-2020 school year as part of the statewide effort to flatten the curve and reduce the spread of COVID-19. The Orange County Department of Education also issued a recommendation that Orange County schools should cancel in-person classes through the remainder of the school year. Along with the other districts in the county, GGUSD will follow these recommendations and extend distance learning through June 12. More details will be forthcoming after next week's Spring break.
The Governor’s announcement also included some initial guidance related to the impact on students, including:
- A partnership with Google to increase internet access and WiFi hotspots
- An agreement from California universities to waive SAT scores as a criteria for admission and to accept pass/fail grades for A-G courses
- Ensuring that high school seniors on track to graduate will be able to do so
- Ensuring that students continue to have access to Grab and Go Meals through the duration of at-home learning
We expect to receive additional guidance from the state and county and will keep you updated as we learn more. Communication regarding grading, graduation, and end-of-year activities will be forthcoming.
We remain committed to ensuring students and families are supported during this challenging time. We hope you have a wonderful spring recess April 10 and are ready to resume at-home learning beginning Monday, April 13.

El día martes, la Mesa Directiva de Educación del GGUSD aprobó la extensión de la cancelación de las clases en persona hasta el 8 de mayo, con el entendimiento de que si fuese necesario estaríamos preparados para aprobar otras extensiones.
Ayer, el gobernador Newsom y el superintendente estatal de instrucción pública, Thurmond, anunciaron que se espera que continúe el aprendizaje a distancia hasta el final del año escolar 2019-2020, como parte del esfuerzo a nivel estatal para aplanar la curva y reducir la propagación del COVID-19. El Departamento de Educación del Condado de Orange también transmitió una recomendación de que las escuelas del Condado de Orange deberían cancelar las clases en persona durante el resto del año escolar. Vào ngày thứ Ba, Hội Đồng Giáo Dục GGUSD đã chấp thuận quyết định gia hạn thêm thời gian đóng cửa các lớp học cho đến ngày 8 tháng 5, và hiểu rằng chúng ta sẽ chuẩn bị để gia hạn thêm khi cần thiết.
Hôm qua, Thống Đốc Gavin Newsom và Giám Đốc Nha Giáo Dục Công Lập Tony Thurmond đã ra thông báo về việc tiếp tục học ở nhà cho đến hết năm học 2019-2020. Đây là một phần trong những nỗ lực của tiểu bang nhằm giảm tỷ lệ nhiễm bệnh và giảm thiểu sự lây lan của chủng COVID-19. Thông báo của Thống đốc cũng nêu lên những hướng dẫn sơ khởi có liên quan và ảnh hưởng đến học sinh, bao gồm:
- Hợp tác với công ty Google để tăng cường các địa điểm truy cập mạng internet và WIFI
- Thoả thuận với các trường đại học thuộc tiểu bang California trong việc miễn lấy điểm bài thi SAT cho yêu cầu vào đại học và chấp nhận điểm đậu/rớt của các lớp A-G
