GGUSD ASPIRE
Welcome to GGUSD ASPIRE:
Promoting Wellness and Learning
At Garden Grove Unified School District, we believe that a student’s emotional and social well-being is the foundation for their academic success. The ASPIRE (Advancing Social-emotional Prevention, Intervention and Resiliency in Education) system of care is our dedicated network designed to support and enhance the social-emotional well-being of all GGUSD students, families, and staff. By championing mental health, ASPIRE helps foster a warm, inclusive, and positive learning climate across our school communities.

The ASPIRE program serves as a foundational pillar in achieving GGUSD District Goal 2: Motivation, Socioemotional Well-being, and Climate & Culture. We directly support the district’s core priority areas by implementing proactive social-emotional learning, introducing trauma-informed practices, and facilitating restorative community structures. Through this dedicated alignment, we ensure that every school site provides a safe, welcoming, and resilient environment where students are motivated and emotionally equipped to reach their full potential. Each of our school sites has a Social Worker II/Social Worker I, Mental Health Specialist, and/or ASPIRE Intern.
The Power of Partnership:
What makes ASPIRE unique is our highly coordinated, team-based approach to care. Rather than working in isolation, our professionals operate within Collaboration Pods—structured, site-based teams that wrap comprehensive support around each school.
Every pod is built to maximize efficiency and ensure no student or family falls through the cracks:
- School Social Worker II: Serves as the team lead and clinical anchor for the Pod, provides expert clinical supervision, and coordinates high-level mental health strategy.
- School Social Worker I: Serves as the primary point of contact for school administration, staff, and families, ensuring the right resources reach the right students.
- Mental Health Specialists: Experienced service providers who work directly with students to deliver coordinated behavioral and emotional support across all tiers.
- ASPIRE Interns: A talented cadre of mental health interns who provide vital, direct wellness support to school sites under the close supervision of our credentialed School Social Workers.
Together, this interdisciplinary team shifts our mental health services from individual assignments to a powerful, unified system of care.
Our Multi-Tiered System of Support
The ASPIRE team meets students exactly where they are. Through a fluid, three-tiered framework, we deliver everything from school-wide wellness campaigns to intensive individualized care.
Tier 1: School-Wide Prevention & Wellness
We proactively build a culture of wellness by equipping students, staff, and parents with the tools they need to thrive. The ASPIRE team collaboratively designs grade-level and school-wide initiatives tailored to each site’s unique community.
- What it looks like: Classroom Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons, mental health and wellness workshops, Wellness Room support, lunch bunches, parent education nights, staff presentations, and community resource linkages.
Tier 2: Targeted Intervention
When a student is experiencing hurdles that interfere with their learning or emotional peace, ASPIRE steps in with short-term, direct counseling services. Typically delivering 10 to 15 hours of counseling support per week per school site, our team helps students navigate everyday challenges and life changes.
- What it looks like: Small group counseling, short-term individual counseling, brief family systems counseling, restorative practices/circles, attendance interventions, and check-in/check-out mentoring.
Tier 3: Intensive Case Management
For students and families facing severe stressors or complex mental health needs, ASPIRE provides compassionate, intensive support to remove systemic barriers to learning. We act as a dedicated bridge between the home, the school, and critical community resources.
- What it looks like: Intensive individual counseling, risk and threat assessments, crisis intervention, child abuse reporting, and comprehensive case management. We actively locate, refer, and follow up with community-based health, medical, or financial agencies to ensure families are fully supported.
