- Tuesday, May 15, 2018
Ten Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) students were recognized during the Orange County Department of Education’s AVID Eighth Grade Standout Ceremony held May 7 at Angel Stadium. GGUSD is proud to announce that three GGUSD students were selected as Angels Scholars and awarded $10,000 in college scholarships. This is a prestigious recognition that was only awarded to six students across all of Orange County.
“The Angel Foundation continues to be a great partner and will once again help three of our scholars on their path to lifelong success,” said Bob Harden GGUSD Board of Education president. “These students have worked hard all year and have earned this wonderful recognition as some of the top AVID students in the county.”
The Angels Foundation generously gifted each of the Standouts with an HP laptop along with an Angels hat, certificate, and medal. The ten eighth Grade Standouts from GGUSD intermediate schools include: Emarie Gomez, Alamitos; Addysen Carson, Bell; Destiny Tran, Doig; Celine Morales, Fitz; Kevin Guillen, Irvine; Tri “Johnny” Ha, Jordan; Aileen Lopez, Lake; Jocelyn Tran, McGarvin; Emily Melgar, Ralston; and Hazel Coronado Viera, Walton.
GGUSD’s Angels Scholars are Addysen Carson, Bell Intermediate; Destiny Tran, Doig Intermediate; and Hazel Coronado Viera, Walton Intermeidate. The $10,000 scholarship awarded to the Angels Scholars is contingent upon a commitment to remain in the AVID program for the four years in high school and to apply and be accepted to a four-year university.
Students will also be honored at the Angel's pre-game ceremony on June 6th before the 7:05 pm game. They will receive an Angels jersey with the year their scholarship was awarded.
