Three graduates from the Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) Class of 2018 were selected to receive full-ride college scholarships from the Angels Baseball Foundation.

The three scholarship winners were part of GGUSD’s AVID college readiness program and include La Quinta High School graduate Mariah Olvera who will attend CSU Humboldt; Rancho Alamitos High School graduate Phillip Huynh, who is heading to UC Santa Barbara; and Santiago High School graduate Jennifer Navarrete who will attend UCLA.

“We are so grateful for the generosity of the Angels Baseball Foundation for providing these life-changing scholarships to our students,” said Walter Muneton, Board of Education trustee.  “Thanks to their partnership, the financial burden of college will be erased for these hard-working GGUSD graduates.”

The Angles Baseball Foundation scholarships vary in amount depending on the university and are intended to cover any unmet costs not covered by other scholarships awarded, giving students a full-ride to college without any student loan debt. The scholarship winners are also matched with a Angels Baseball Foundation mentor, who will meet with students regularly, giving them personalized support and guidance to achieve their college goals.
