GGUSD Students Earn Scholarships for Winning Science Projects

Four Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) students were presented with college scholarship funds awarded by Endologix, a medical equipment manufacturer, which hosted the Science Fest Showcase and scholarship presentation on Tuesday at the company’s headquarters in Irvine.  The idea for the Science Fest Showcase originated from a unique partnership with GGUSD, Endologix, the United Way of Orange County, and the Boys and Girls Club of Garden Grove. 
 
Bell Intermediate School students Carissa Do and Madisyn Corrales as well as Fitz Intermediate School student Honey Morales and Jordan Intermediate School student Elvis Nguyen earned scholarships, gift cards, and certificates for placing first in science fairs held at their schools. 
 
During the showcase, students highlighted their science projects to family members and Endologix staff.  Second and third place science fair winners received gift cards and certificates.  Endologix also awarded funds to each school’s science department.  
  
"We are so grateful for real-world industry professionals who are invested in sparking an interest in science among our students,” said Walter Muneton, GGUSD Board of Education trustee. “This experience allowed our students to get a firsthand look at careers in the science field and apply scientific principles in their own experiments.”    
 
The partnership created after-school programs for students at Bell, Fitz, and Jordan intermediate schools to develop science projects and conduct experiments. Students were also given the opportunity to tour Endologix Worldwide Headquarters in Irvine to observe product creation, experiments conducted in labs, and interact with professional engineers.
