Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) is seeing success with its Early College Academy which gives students the opportunity to earn college credit for free and meet high school graduation requirements at the same time.

During the 2019-2020 school year, 50 students participated in the Academy at Santiago High School earning college credit through Santa Ana College at no cost.  New in the 2020-2021 school year, GGUSD is launching its second Early College Academy at Los Amigos High School.  Over 80 Los Amigos High School students will participate, earning college credit at no cost through the district’s partnership with Goldenwest College. Each year, a new group of students will enter the Academy programs, reaping the benefits earning college credit and meeting high school graduation requirements simultaneously.

“The first year of the program was so successful that we are excited to offer our second Early College Academy at Los Amigos High School and hope to continue expanding to additional high schools in the future,” said Bob Harden, Board of Education Trustee.  “Students are excited to get a head start on their future and save thousands in college courses and textbooks with access to community college resources.”

Students who participate have the opportunity to transfer directly to a UC or CSU as a junior after they graduate high school.
