Nearly 3,200 high school seniors from Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) graduated from the district’s eight high schools during virtual graduation ceremonies held June 11 and June 12.

The ceremonies featured student performances as well as speeches from students, principals, and board of education members, reading of the names, presentation of class gifts, and some featured photo highlights of students’ senior year. The livestream broadcasts were aired on a custom website for each high school as well as on local Vietnamese TV stations.

The community tuned in to celebrate the Class of 2020, who has an impressive list of academic accolades and exciting plans for college, career, and lifelong success.

Among the Class of 2020, nearly 900 students report that they have chosen to attend a UC or CSU school.  Additionally, students in the Class of 2020 finished high school with more than 7,100 Advanced Placement courses completed.

“The district put a lot of work into creating truly special and safe virtual graduations that honored the hard work and accomplishments of our high school seniors, showing them they are valued and loved,” said Walter Muneton, GGUSD Board of Education president.  “I wholeheartedly believe that GGUSD’s Class of 2020 will leave their mark in history as the next generation of educators, engineers, policy makers, social workers, and scientists who are committed to doing good in their communities.”

“I have never been more proud of a group of students than I am of the graduating Class of 2020,” said Board of Education Vice President Teri Rocco.  “You will forever be part of the Class of 2020, a class of students that will emerge stronger and more resilient because of the adversity you have endured during this pandemic.”

The Class of 2020 boasts an impressive 33 National Merit Scholars and 1,390 seniors earned the Golden State Seal Merit Diploma demonstrating mastery in at least six subject areas.

For the third year in a row, all seven comprehensive high schools were named to U.S. News and World Report’s elite rankings as America’s Best High Schools. GGUSD is the first district in Orange County to be named a California Exemplary District for model practices.

The ceremonies will be published on the district’s YouTube channel and each graduate of the Class of 2020 will receive a digital file as a keepsake.
