At its meeting on October 15, Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) Board of Education approved a cooperative agreement with the City of Fountain Valley to employ a School Resource Officer dedicated to GGUSD schools located in the City of Fountain Valley.

Fountain Valley Interim Police Chief Mike Ishii expressed his support for the agreement which will strengthen the partnership between GGUSD and the City of Fountain Valley and ensure students at Allen, Monroe and Northcutt elementary schools and Los Amigos High School receive the highest level of police support.

School Resource Officer Danielle Fermin also expressed her excitement to continue building positive relationships with GGUSD students and families. Previously she served as SRO for all 18 schools in the City of Fountain Valley from various districts, including the Fountain Valley School District, Ocean View School District and Hunting Beach Union High School District. The new agreement allows her to dedicate all of her time to GGUSD schools.

“School safety is our first and most important priority,” said Board of Education Trustee Bob Harden. “The insights and expertise of our School Resource Officers has been essential in creating safe and secure campuses across our large district. Our SROs provide GGUSD students with positive role models and a safe place to turn for help.”

Officer Fermin has eight years of experience in law enforcement, including five with the Fountain Valley Police Department and is heavily involved with community engagement efforts. When she’s not working, Officer Fermin enjoys running, crafting and going on adventures with her 8-year-old daughter.

Currently, GGUSD has cost-sharing agreements in place with the Garden Grove Police Department that funds a sergeant and six School Resource Offers who are dedicated 100% to ensuring the safety of the 52 schools in Garden Grove; with the Santa Ana Police Department for a School Resource Officer for the district’s six schools located in Santa Ana; and with the Westminster Police Department for the district’s six schools located in Westminster.
