Garden Grove Unified School District Principal Honored with Statewide Award

Staff and students at Murdy Elementary School hosted a special assembly on November 15 to surprise Principal Marcie Griffith with the news that she had been selected as this year’s recipient of the California Association for the Gifted (CAG) Distinguished Service Award.

Staff members from the Garden Grove Unified School District Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program and Murdy Elementary School students presented Griffith with the award certificate. Sixth grade students provided congratulatory remarks and a poster they created.

The CAG Distinguished Service Award is presented to individuals who go above and beyond to advocate for gifted and talented students. Prior to becoming principal at Murdy Elementary School, Griffith was the district GATE Program Supervisor, as well as a teacher.

“Garden Grove Unified School District is fortunate to have dedicated principals like Marcie who go the extra mile to ensure that all students have the tools they need to achieve academic success,” said Bob Harden, GGUSD Board of Education trustee.
