Garden Grove Unified School District AVID Students Earn Top Scholarships

Twenty-two AVID seniors from Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) were awarded more than $536,000 in college scholarships during the 2019 AVID Senior Standout Recognition & Scholarship Presentation hosted on April 24 by the Orange County Department of Education. The event also recognizes one impressive Senior Standout from each high school from AVID programs across Orange County.

“We are so proud of our AVID students for making college a priority and for investing the hard work it takes to earn college scholarships, said Teri Rocco, Board of Education vice president.  “Our AVID programs are among the best in the county, state, and nation, and our AVID students receive countless benefits because of it.”

Senior standout students from GGUSD include: Mustafa Askarzadeh, Bolsa Grande High School; Brenda Salas, Garden Grove High School; Victoria Do, La Quinta High School; Xavier Valencia, Los Amigos High School; Tammy Tran, Pacifica High School; Kevin Dinh, Rancho Alamitos High School; and Annie Tong, Santiago High School.

More than 600 Orange County AVID seniors submitted applications for scholarships. Of the 120 scholarship winners from across Orange County, 22 students were from GGUSD schools and received a total of $536,000 of the $2.4 million.
