The Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) Board of Education officially kicked off a new era for GGUSD athletics on Friday, August 23, during the district’s grand opening celebration of the brand new Bolsa Stadium. The event was attended by numerous dignitaries, alumni, members of the Bolsa Grande 1986 CIF-SS football championship team, members of Bolsa Grande High School’s very first football team from 1959, district staff, members of the community, and current GGUSD students.

"I want to thank our community members who shared our vision for this project and overwhelmingly approved Measure P which provided the funds to build it," said Bob Harden, GGUSD Board of Education trustee. "I've been looking forward to this celebration for quite some time and this stadium is even more impressive than I imagined."

After the grand opening celebration which included remarks from Board of Education Vice President Teri Rocco, Trustee Bob Harden, and Trustee Walter Muneton, the Bolsa Grande Matadors played its first game of the season, defeating Bosco Tech 29-12 for an exciting win.

The 5,000-seat stadium features rebuilt home and visitor grandstands, a turf field and synthetic track, new LED-lighting, a newly constructed concession stand, an LED-video scoreboard, two team rooms, a press box twice the size of the one in the old stadium, and a state-of-the-art sound system.

The facility will serve as the home for the Bolsa Grande, La Quinta, Pacifica Rancho Alamitos football teams; as well as a site for district-wide events.

Construction of the stadium was possible thanks to the community and their overwhelming support of Measure P in 2016, which also led to the construction the district’s other stadium, Michael A. Monsoor Memorial Stadium on the campus of Garden Grove High School.
