Happy New Year GGUSD Families! This week, all GGUSD students resumed distance learning following the winter recess. It was wonderful to have students back in our online classrooms, learning and sharing the highlights of their holidays with their teachers and classmates.
We appreciate the more than 7,000 families who completed our Distance Learning Customer Satisfaction Survey to help us identify areas for improvement in our distance learning programs. We are currently analyzing the survey data and will soon share with you the key findings as well as the new improvements to support the success of ALL GGUSD students.
You may have heard that on December 30, Governor Newsom announced a new phased-in approach to reopen schools across the state for in-person instruction beginning with our youngest learners and those with special needs. The California’s Safe Schools for All Plan encourages districts to provide in-person instruction for kindergarten through second grade students beginning in mid-February and extending to grades 3-6 in March, committing funds to school districts for PPE, cleaning, testing, and other safety measures. The plan promises state support for contact tracing and prioritizes the distribution of vaccines for school staff.
District leaders expect to receive additional details about the plan soon and will be working closely with county and state leaders to determine the impact and potential benefits for our district reopening plans. We certainly welcome state assistance when it comes to increasing testing and vaccine opportunities for our staff and students.
As always, we are committed to the health and safety of our students, staff and community. Included below are resources that may be helpful to you and your family during this challenging time.
COVID-19
With the recent surge of COVID-19 cases in Orange County and our low hospital capacity, it is more important than ever to remain vigilant with safety practices, including physical distancing, mask wearing, hand washing, and daily symptom checks.
