Santiago High School Receives National Spotlight in Back-to-School Campaign

Garden Grove Unified School District’s Santiago High School is receiving positive national attention in the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Back-to-School campaign. The Foundation created a video spotlighting Santiago High School for using data to improve teaching and learning and to support student gains. Santiago High School is featured as a “student-ready” school prepared to help all students succeed.

“We are pleased that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation recognized all of the success that has occurred at Santiago High School to close the achievement gap and help all students reach their full potential,” said Walter Muneton, GGUSD Board of Education trustee.

The video, which can be viewed at http://k12education.gatesfoundation.org/back-to-school, as well on the district’s website, www.ggusd.us, and YouTube channel, features Superintendent Dr. Gabriela Mafi, Santiago High School Principal Mike Kennedy, Science Teacher Vickie Miller, and Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) Tanya Avina.

The video highlights the supportive culture at Santiago High School and the data-driven steps that have driven significant gains in college readiness scores.
