Los Amigos High School student Daniel Felipe’s exceptional work at the CVS Store in Santa Ana earned him special recognition this week. Felipe was named the 2017 CVS Student Award of Excellence winner in the Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) WorkAbility I Program which provides vocational skills for students with special needs.

During a special ceremony held at CVS, Store Manager Travis Galvan praised Felipe’s work and said he looks forward to offering him a full-time job at the completion of his WorkAbility program. CVS Workforce Initiatives Manager Lisa Dowd presented Felipe with a check for a $200 scholarship.

CVS district and store managers, along with WorkAbility employees, teachers, and family members attended the ceremony to celebrate Felipe’s accomplishment.

“Daniel should be commended for demonstrating those valuable skills which companies like CVS want in their employees,” said Bob Harden, Board of Education vice president. “We are pleased that the WorkAbility Program is paving the way for success after high school for Daniel and so many of our students.”

This prestigious honor is awarded to one student each year from thousands of students in 68 school districts across Los Angeles and Orange counties. In Garden Grove Unified School District, approximately 130 high school students are placed in paid training through the WorkAbility I Program that partners with over 50 businesses in the community.
