Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) is celebrating the Lunar New Year with schoolwide celebrations at many of our campuses during the month of February. The festivities kicked off with a performance from a group of Dragon Dancers representing Bolsa Grande High School who performed for the GGUSD Board of Education, staff, and guests at the February 5, 2019 Board of Education meeting.

“We all have a fun time seeing the Lunar New Year celebrations and I look forward to attending many of the festivities at our schools each year,” said Lan Nguyen, GGUSD Board of Education president. “They allow everyone to experience another culture and give them a chance learn about that culture as well.

Schools across the district will be celebrating the Lunar New Year with a variety of events. GGUSD has a large number of Vietnamese students and takes great pride in encouraging them to embrace and celebrate their heritage. Celebrations are set to include: lion dancers, dragon dancers, performances by our high school students at elementary school sites, fashion shows featuring traditional cultural wear, Vietnamese Culture Night at Don Wash Auditorium, and much more.

Students and district representatives including Board of Trustee members and Superintendent Dr. Gabriela Mafi will also be participating in the 2019 Tet Festival Parade along with the GGUSD Bus Full of Pride on February 9, 2019 in the City of Westminster.
