GGUSD Students Show Off Their Work at the 41st Annual First Impressions Art Show

Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) hosted its 41st annual First Impressions Art Show to celebrate the creative talent of hundreds of students from all grade levels from preschool to high school. Awards were presented in front of a packed room of parents, staff, and community members at the Garden Grove Community Center on Saturday, March 16, 2019.

Garden Grove Mayor Steve Jones presented Charlotte Barbas of Patton Elementary School, with the Mayor’s Award for her multimedia piece called “Chicken Burger.”

GGUSD Board of Education President Lan Nguyen presented La Quinta High School student Camille Tran with the President of the School Board Award for her piece titled “Break Fast”  

Dr. Gabriela Mafi presented Fitz Intermediate School student Lily Nguyen with the Superintendents’ Award for her piece “Schools Sessions.”

GGUSD Board of Education Vice President Teri Rocco presented the award for PK-6 Best in Show to Danh Tran, of Carrillo Elementary School for his piece “Goose Gandering.”

Vice President Teri Rocco presented the award for 7-8 Best in Show to Alamitos Intermediate School student Darlena Le for her piece “Sunset @ the Shore.”

The 9-12 Best in Show award went to Connie Kim, of Pacifica High School, for her piece called “Trapped.” She was presented with her award at the March 19 GGUSD Board of Education meeting by GGUSD Coordinator of Visual and Performing Arts Stacy Harris.

Los Amigos High School senior Tammy Ha’s piece titled “Isolation” was chosen for the program cover.

The event was held at the Garden Grove Community Center with the artwork on display in a gallery hosted at The Courtyard Center. GGUSD Coordinator of Visual and Performing Arts Stacy Harris and Teacher on Special Assignment Matt Franklin organized the district art show.
