Michael A. Monsoor Stadium Dedication

On Friday, September 8, 2017 at 6:00 p.m., the Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education will host a Dedication Ceremony of the new Michael A. Monsoor Memorial Stadium. The event will help kick off football season, showcase the new state-of-the-art stadium to the community, and honor the memory of Michael A. Monsoor, a 1999 Garden Grove High School graduate and posthumous Medal of Honor Recipient. Tickets for the Stadium Dedication are $8 and include the football game of Grove vs. Woodbridg following the ceremony.

While at Garden Grove High School, Monsoor was a tight end for the school’s varsity football team. After high school, he enlisted in the Navy in 2001 and completed initial training as an elite Seal in 2004. During combat against insurgents in Ramadi, Iraq, Monsoor sacrificed his life when he leaped on a live grenade to save two SEAL team members in September 2006. For his valiant actions, the petty officer was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor in 2008 by then President George W. Bush.
