La Quinta High School to Unveil Historic “Project Legacy” Campaign at Hall of Fame Night

La Quinta High School administrators and staff are spearheading an historic campaign to connect current students with the rich history of La Quinta High School. “Project Legacy” will be unveiled at the school’s 2nd Annual Hall of Fame Night on Friday, December 1

Students, parents, and La Quinta High School alumni are invited to attend to celebrate the school’s rich history, honor two of the school’s former athletic coaches, and learn about “Project Legacy” plans to propel the school toward even greater success over the next 50 years. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in the main office at La Quinta High School.

“We commend La Quinta High School staff and students for all they are doing to build a sense of community pride around the past and future accomplishments of their students,” said Bob Harden, Board of Education vice president.

Hall of Fame Night will kick off at 5:00 p.m. with an alumni reception to honor two former athletic coaches who were previously named to the CIF Hall of Fame. Jim Perry, who was the athletic director for 28 years and also served as basketball coach for about half of his tenure at LQ will be honored along with Larry James, who taught at La Quinta for over 40 years. Larry was the first volleyball coach at La Quinta and is amongst the winningest volleyball coaches ever across Orange County.

The ceremony to honor Perry and James will begin at 6:00 p.m., and will also include an update on the construction and rebuilding of La Quinta High School. The new math, science and business buildings were opened in April of 2017. The humanities buildings, a state of the art performing arts center, a library-media center, and new athletic facility to include a pool and gymnasium will all be built in the next two to three years.

Principal Denise Halstead will highlight “Project Legacy,” a multiyear endeavor drawing on the time, talent, and treasure of alumni and the community with the mission of enhancing the student experience, connecting students with the school’s rich history, and providing new internship, scholarship, and job experience opportunities.

The Hall of Fame evening is being sponsored by 1976 alumni Gary Crisp, President/CEO and Founder of Crisp Imaging. Crisp is involved in the marketing and branding aspect of “Project Legacy” through his premier reprographics company.

The evening will conclude with a boys’ varsity basketball game at 7:00 p.m. against the Panthers of Orange. Freshman and junior varsity games are at 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
