Recent developments only affecting Medical Plan members utilizing Memorial Care hospitals or surgical centers:

Anthem has recently advised us that effective August 15, 2017, hospitals and surgical centers within the Memorial Care Health System ("Memorial Care") in Los Angeles and Orange counties will no longer be a part of Anthem’s provider network. Please note that this does NOT include individual physicians or physician groups affiliated with Memorial Care. This change is not within GGUSD's control.

Anthem continues to negotiate with Memorial Care in hopes of securing an extended contract. If they are successful at reaching an agreement, members will be notified accordingly. While GGUSD has no direct influence in the negotiations, we do hope the situation will soon be resolved and we continue work with our contacts to protect the interests of our employees.

Memorial Care includes the following hospitals and surgical centers:

  • Long Beach Memorial Medical Center
  • Community Hospital of Long Beach
  • Miller Children's and Women's Hospital of Long Beach
  • Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center
  • Saddleback Memorial Medical Center
  • Memorial Care Surgical Centers (all locations) at Saddleback and Orange Coast

A list of alternate facilities is available here.

An overview provided by Anthem is available here.

HMO Members who are pregnant, currently undergoing a course of treatment, or have a current authorization for health care services at a Memorial Care facility, may be eligible for transition assistance to ensure continuity of care. Please contact Anthem at 800-888-8288.

PPO/EPO Members:

Please be assured that your health care coverage will not be interrupted as a result of this contract termination. Members currently receiving ongoing treatment or who are scheduled for care from one of the affected providers listed above should complete and forward to EBA&M the Continuity of Care form to ensure that your care is not disrupted and allow for completion of your current course of treatment with your Memorial Care provider. If you need assistance completing the form, please contact EBA&M at 855-322-7606 and ID yourself as a GGUSD Member.

Remember, it is important to verify provider contract before every appointment. You may access Provider finder instructions here.
