Thirty AVID seniors from Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD) were awarded more than $630,000 in college scholarships during the 2017 AVID Senior Standout Recognition & Scholarship Presentation hosted on April 25 by the Orange County Department of Education. The event also recognizes one impressive Senior Standout from each high school from AVID programs across Orange County.

“We are so proud to see our AVID students preparing for college and earning scholarships that will open up many doors in their futures,” said Dina Nguyen, Board of Education trustee. “The students who were awarded scholarships truly took advantage of what AVID offers and have worked hard to accomplish their goals in high school and beyond.”

Senior standout students from GGUSD included Karina Ta, Bolsa Grande High School; Perla Flores, Garden Grove High School; Alejandra Morales Mora, La Quinta High School, Ashley Sotelo, Los Amigos High School; Helena Huynh, Pacifica High School; Michelle Cardenas, Rancho Alamitos High School; and Edith Jimenez, Santiago High School.

GGUSD students received $630,250 in AVID-supported college scholarships from AVID Orange County Dollars for Scholars, Angels Scholars, Hope International University, and from the Syage Family Fund and Kingston Technology Scholarship via the Orange County Community Foundation AVID Scholarship Fund.
